GRACE EXHIBITION SPACE downstairs gallery 182 Avenue C - NYC 10009

GRACE EXHIBITION SPACE downstairs gallery 182 Avenue C - NYC 10009

A six-month residency at Grace Exhibition Space, in recognition of Theresa Byrne’s 36 year, multi-disciplinary career as a painter and performance artist, showcaseing 20 years of her performance art on surrounding screens on the ground floorand a collection of works (downstairs gallery), from 2001 to 2021, that trace a journey toward biodegradable art making.

“I see power and beauty in the disgarded and decayed and find freedom, in it’s purist state, in the mistake. Denial of error, of suffering is slamming the door to change and growth both in life and in painting. The mistake is a pathway to the poetic and to greater beauty.”

Exhibition opens on Saturday, February 27, 2021 3-7 thru April 24.

Byrnes will perform GLIMPSE on Friday April 2.

GLIMPSE examines the moment, of action, of impact, the drama and thrill of painting, it invokes a relentless drive to break through barriers, and inhale the unexpected.

Artists relyant on environmentally hazardous art materials make me aware of our hypocrisy - creative freedom can no longer be environmentally brutal, based on human supremacy and rooted in the colonial-capitalist system. It is time we artists get back to our cauldrons.”

Money as curency is accepted but it is not the only way to own a Byrnes original.

It is mutually enriching and empowering to fully or in part trade. I happily swap for a myriad of skills …photographic documentation, film work, massage, physical training, studio space, studio assistance, art handeling,  storage space, PR, social media, web work, design, legal advise. The list goes on as everyone has so much to offer, please do not be afraid to suggest an offer.
